Services

Four engagements,
each with a defined end

Every service is a fixed-scope piece of work with a specified deliverable, a set timeframe, and a fee that is known before the work begins. There is no open-ended commitment.

How the services work

Each service answers a specific question

The engagements below were designed around the questions that arise at particular points in an organisation's development. They are not adaptable to any question — they are well suited to specific ones.

If the question you are facing does not map cleanly to one of the engagements described here, a short conversation will help clarify whether the work could still be useful, and in what form.

Regional Expansion Planning

Engagement 01

Regional Expansion Planning

6 weeks ¥44,000

An assessment for companies considering a second location or a new prefecture. Covers local demand evidence, the cost of establishing and running the site, staffing availability in the area, and the management attention the move will require from an already occupied team. Site visits are included.

Suited to organisations with one established location and a proposal to expand. Not suited to organisations still deciding whether to grow at all — a different conversation is needed at that stage.

What is included

  • Site visits to candidate locations
  • Costed establishment plan with monthly cash view through the setup period
  • Local staffing and demand analysis
  • Management load assessment for the existing team
  • A plain note of conditions under which the move should be deferred

Performance Measurement Setup

Engagement 02

Performance Measurement Setup

4 weeks ¥32,000

Establishing a small set of measures that reflect how a company actually performs — replacing figures that are reported because they are available rather than because they inform decisions. Four weeks of work with leadership and department heads.

Intended for organisations producing extensive reporting that nobody acts on. The result is a smaller, agreed set of measures and a reduced reporting pack that is actually used.

What is included

  • Interviews with leadership and department heads
  • Written definitions of each retained measure, agreed across departments
  • A reduced reporting pack structure
  • A note of measures that should be discontinued and why

Outsourcing Decision Review

Engagement 03

Outsourcing Decision Review

4 weeks ¥34,000

An examination of whether a function is better held internally or placed with an external provider — covering direct cost, management overhead, quality control, dependency risk, and the practical difficulty of reversing the decision later.

Appropriate for companies weighing an outsourcing proposal already on the table. The engagement may conclude with a recommendation to retain the function internally. Both outcomes are treated as equally valid.

What is included

  • Cost comparison over a five-year horizon, not only year one
  • Assessment of management overhead and quality control mechanisms
  • Dependency and reversibility risk assessment
  • A note on the exit terms that would need to be agreed before signing
  • A recommendation that may be to retain the function

Board Reporting Preparation

Engagement 04

Board Reporting Preparation

3 weeks ¥28,000

Support in preparing material for a board, investor group, or lending institution. Covers what each audience needs to see, how figures should be presented to be understood, and the questions likely to follow from areas of weakness in the pack.

Runs per reporting cycle. The engagement produces a reusable structure — so subsequent reporting cycles require less preparation time, not the same amount.

What is included

  • A reusable reporting structure for the specific audience
  • Review of the draft pack with written commentary
  • Preparation of the presenting team for questions on areas of weakness
  • Notes on how to present figures so they are understood, not just presented

Engagement rhythm

What happens in each week

The table below shows the standard cadence for a four-week engagement. Six-week engagements follow a similar structure with an extended analysis phase and site visit weeks.

Week Client involvement Adviser activity
Week 1 Document sharing and initial interviews (2–3 hours) Review of documentation; preparation of interview questions
Week 2 Availability for follow-up questions as needed Core analysis: costing, measurement design, or risk assessment
Week 3 Review of draft; factual corrections only (not direction) Draft preparation and internal review
Week 4 Receipt of final document Final revisions; delivery of written report

Getting started

A short description of the situation is enough

If you are uncertain which engagement fits the question you have, describe the situation briefly and we will advise on whether one of these engagements is suited to it, and how the work would be structured.
